Study Design and Methodology
The randomized clinical trial involved 74 elderly individuals (60 years and older) with grade 2 or higher hypertension (搜索) who were undergoing treatment with antihypertensive drugs (搜索). Participants were divided into intervention and control groups. The intervention group received 45-minute training sessions once a week for six weeks, led by a peer who had well-controlled blood pressure and demonstrated strong communication skills. The peer educator delivered content based on the Ministry of Health's standard educational package for blood pressure control. The control group received similar education from a health center nurse.
Medication adherence was measured using the Morisky Medication Adherence Scale (MMAS-8) before the intervention, immediately after, and at 3- and 6-week follow-ups. The direct costs of implementing the training sessions were also calculated for both groups to determine cost-effectiveness.
