Thermo Fisher Scientific (搜索) has announced the launch of the Thermo Scientific X2 and S2 Series Centrifuges, new general purpose centrifuges that deliver precise separation performance alongside improved sustainability for medical research, biopharma, and clinical laboratories. With a maximum capacity of 1.6 liters per run, these benchtop instruments bring the same advanced safety features and ergonomic design found in the larger 4-liter X4 and S4 Series models into a smaller footprint suitable for diverse lab configurations.
The launch marks a significant industry milestone: Thermo Fisher Scientific (搜索) becomes the first manufacturer to offer a complete refrigerated centrifuge portfolio featuring natural refrigerant cooling systems. The new X2 and S2 Series employ Thermo Scientific GreenCool Technology, which uses a refrigerant with a low Global Warming Potential (GWP) of 3 and is fully compliant with both European Union and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency F-gas regulations.

Performance and Rotor Flexibility
The X2 and S2 Series are engineered for precise separation across a broad range of applications. Fixed-angle rotors deliver over 25,000 × g, while swinging bucket rotors exceed 7,000 × g, enabling efficient separations even for challenging samples. The X Series supports up to 18 optional rotors, and the S Series accommodates up to 15, including Thermo Scientific Fiberlite carbon fiber options that reduce rotor weight and improve ergonomics.
An expanded refrigerated temperature range now reaches down to -20°C, providing enhanced temperature control for temperature-sensitive protocols. The centrifuges are available in both ventilated and refrigerated models, with general use and IVD/MD model options to meet varying operational and compliance requirements.
Operational Efficiency and Safety
Designed for efficient and ergonomic operation, the centrifuges feature Thermo Scientific Auto-Lock Rotor Exchange, which enables rotor changes in under three seconds. Thermo Scientific ClickSeal Biocontainment Lids offer glove-friendly, one-handed operation, streamlining workflows in busy laboratory environments.
The instruments are manufactured at a certified zero-waste facility powered by 100% renewable electricity and are more energy efficient than previous models, further advancing sustainable laboratory practices.

The X2 and S2 Series are suited for laboratories across academic research, cell culture, cell and gene therapy, bioproduction, QA/QC laboratories, molecular biology, clinical diagnostics, and clinical/IVF settings.
