Developed in collaboration with the National Research Center Foundation for the Development of Gene Therapy and RNA-Based Drugs (搜索), the program represents a strategic effort to align academic training with the demands of the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.
Applications must be submitted by 2:00 p.m. on September 17, 2026, with the selection process concluding by September 25, 2026. The training program is scheduled to commence on October 19, 2026.
Selection and Eligibility
Admission to the PharmaTech Academy is competitive, based on an evaluation of academic credentials followed by an oral examination. During the interview, candidates will be assessed on their academic background, personal motivation, cognitive, organizational, and interpersonal skills, as well as English proficiency.
The program is open—without age or citizenship restrictions—to holders of master's or specialist degrees in Biology, Biotechnology, Pharmacy, Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and Chemical Sciences. Candidates who will earn their degree by October 31, 2026, may also apply, though degree completion is an essential requirement for confirming admission.
Curriculum and Training Model
The PharmaTech Academy embraces a "learning by doing" philosophy, fostering close collaboration between the university and pharmaceutical companies. The curriculum is built on three fundamental pillars. The first focuses on soft skills development, including communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and critical thinking. The second pillar delivers specialized training through two modules: one centered on the research and development of gene therapies and RNA-based drugs, and the other dedicated to the manufacturing processes of RNA-based medicines. The third pillar consists of laboratory activities conducted at the high-tech facilities of the National Center for Gene Therapy and Drugs Based on RNA Technology, as well as in the extended reality labs of the PharmaTech Academy, where immersive technologies are applied to scientific training.
To accommodate participants from diverse academic backgrounds, the program includes activities designed to align foundational knowledge, ensuring all students are prepared for the more specialized modules.
The program spans nine months, totaling 1,200 hours of training that includes lectures, online activities, practical exercises, group work, seminars, workshops, external events, and independent study. A portion of the instruction is delivered in English, reflecting the initiative's international scope.
Structure and Commitment
Training activities take place primarily at the Scampia Campus of the University of Naples Federico II (搜索), the Department of Pharmacy, and the offices of the National Center's partner organizations. The program concludes with a project placement at one of the National Center's partner companies, typically lasting three months. At the request of participating companies, the placement may be extended to up to six months, bringing the total training duration to twelve months.
The commitment required is substantial: activities occur five days per week, primarily on weekdays, averaging at least seven hours per day, with some Saturday mornings included. Attendance is mandatory for at least 85% of the scheduled hours.
Building on Previous Success
The launch of the 2026–2027 session follows the Graduation Day of the third edition of the PharmaTech Academy and the kick-off of the Advanced PharmaTech Academy, held on July 16, 2026, at the Scampia University Campus. That event featured remarks from university and city leadership, including Matteo Lorito of the ANVUR Executive Board, Vincenzo Santagada, Councilor for Health and Green Spaces for the City of Naples, Giovanni Esposito, President of the School of Medicine and Surgery at Federico II, and Angelo A. Izzo, Director of the Department of Pharmacy.
Angela Zampella, Acting Rector of Federico II University, and Rosario Rizzuto, President of the National Center Foundation for the Development of Gene Therapy and RNA-Based Drugs, addressed the achievements and future prospects of the Academy, underscoring the program's role in creating advanced training pathways aligned with the needs of innovative industrial sectors.
