The new campus will introduce Fort Worth's first MRI-guided precision radiation (搜索) treatment capability, addressing the growing demand for advanced cancer (搜索) care in Tarrant County and surrounding areas. As many as two-thirds of cancer patients require radiation therapy during their treatment journey.
"This milestone, once completed, will ensure that Tarrant County residents have access to the best available cancer (搜索) care, combining the latest advances in medical technology with the expertise of our clinicians and researchers, who are some of the top cancer specialists in the country," said Daniel K. Podolsky, M.D., President of UT Southwestern.
State-of-the-Art Treatment Capabilities
The facility will feature four linear accelerators (LINACs) to deliver precise radiation treatments, with space to add two more to meet future demand. In addition to the groundbreaking MRI-guided radiation treatment system, the campus will offer:
- Positron emission tomography (PET) imaging for accurate diagnosis and tumor evaluation
- A fully equipped brachytherapy suite for high-dose radiation treatments for prostate and gynecologic cancers
- Connection to UT Southwestern's comprehensive cancer care network
These advanced technologies will allow Fort Worth patients to receive cutting-edge treatments closer to home, an important consideration given that radiation therapy often requires daily visits over several weeks.
Meeting Fort Worth's Growing Healthcare Needs
Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker emphasized the importance of this development for the rapidly growing city: "Fort Worth is one of the fastest-growing cities in the country, and our high quality of life is a major driver of that growth. Building on Excellence in Cancer Care
UT Southwestern's cancer (搜索) program is ranked among the top 25 out of 4,500 hospitals nationwide by U.S. News & World Report. Its Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center (搜索) is the only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center in North Texas and one of just 57 nationwide.
The institution's Department of Radiation Oncology specialists are pioneers in advanced therapies such as stereotactic ablative radiation therapy (搜索) (SABR) and personalized ultrafractionated stereotactic adaptive radiotherapy (搜索) (PULSAR). These innovative approaches have transformed radiation therapy standards, making treatments more targeted while reducing damage to healthy tissue.
The Moncrief Cancer Institute (搜索) has been part of UT Southwestern since 1999, offering screening programs and support services across multiple counties. In 2015, UT Southwestern expanded its cancer (搜索) care to Fort Worth, providing medical and surgical oncology services, imaging, and chemotherapy.
The new Radiation Oncology campus will join UT Southwestern's other specialty services at the nearby UT Southwestern Monty and Tex Moncrief Medical Center at Fort Worth, which offers primary care, lab services, pharmacy, and multiple specialty clinics including cardiology, neurology, and urology.
