The appointment arrives at what CEO Marianne De Backer described as "a pivotal moment for the company," as the clinical-stage biopharmaceutical firm advances its portfolio of investigational therapies for infectious diseases and cancer.
De Backer, M.Sc., Ph.D., MBA, emphasized the strategic value Coughlin brings to the organization. "Tim brings a strong background of strategic discipline and operational insight that has helped organizations evolve into fully integrated enterprises," she stated. "His extensive experience as chief financial officer and board member spanning discovery through commercialization will be highly valuable as we advance our portfolio."
Coughlin's track record includes serving as Chief Financial Officer of Neurocrine Biosciences, Inc., where he helped lead the company's transition from a clinical-stage biotechnology company to a fully integrated commercial pharmaceutical company. Notably, this transformation occurred after the company navigated a key regulatory setback, ultimately bringing important therapies to patients while increasing shareholder value.

Prior to Neurocrine, Coughlin served as Vice President of Financial Services at Catholic Health Initiatives, a nationwide integrated healthcare delivery system, and as a Senior Manager in the Health Sciences practice of Ernst & Young LLP.
Coughlin currently holds board positions at several biopharmaceutical companies, serving as chair of the board of directors of aTyr Pharma, Inc. and as a member of the boards of ADC Therapeutics SA and Travere Therapeutics, Inc. His previous board service includes Fate Therapeutics, Inc. (搜索) and Peloton Therapeutics, Inc., the latter prior to its acquisition by Merck (搜索) in 2019.
Coughlin holds a master's degree in international business from San Diego State University and a bachelor's degree in accounting from Temple University. He is a certified public accountant in both California and Pennsylvania.
