Xelios Biometrics Advances Single Medical Record System Using Fingerprint Identification in Madrid Hospitals

The system is currently deployed in two hospitals in Madrid, according to CEO Marcos Gómez-Acebo.
The single medical record initiative aims to streamline healthcare delivery by allowing any participating hospital to retrieve a patient's complete medical record immediately through fingerprint identification. Gómez-Acebo explained that if implemented across the Canary Islands, any hospital in the archipelago "would have access to your medical record with your fingerprint immediately, which would save a lot of money" by enabling quick and effective treatments anywhere in the territory.
Xelios Biometrics (搜索) describes itself as a biotechnology company specializing in the development, marketing, and integration of advanced biometrics security solutions. The company was originally acquired by Gómez-Acebo 23 years ago from the French business group Sagem (搜索), a military technology firm that now belongs to the American national security group Idemia (搜索).
"We are a biotechnology company, we do biometrics. We started with fingerprints to access all the football stadiums in Argentina, also that of Real Madrid which is still with us," Gómez-Acebo stated.
Beyond healthcare, the company has expanded into facial recognition technology for the financial sector. Its "ID proofing" solution allows mobile phones to recognize users' faces, enabling banking and commercial transactions. Among its clients is an ATM network comprising 46 banks in Argentina.
When asked about competitive advantages, Gómez-Acebo emphasized that "our products are manufactured in Europe, they cannot be manufactured in China or India because the algorithms we use are military."
The company operates with a workforce of approximately 30 people, with five employees handling central administration in Lanzarote and the remainder consisting of engineers based in Argentina, where the company's largest clients are located. Gómez-Acebo confirmed plans to hire additional staff in Lanzarote should the company expand its business presence in the Canary Islands.
Xelios Biometrics (搜索) benefits from the tax regime of the Canary Special Zone (ZEC), having relocated to Lanzarote in 2018 after previous registrations in New York between 2012 and 2017.
