India Approves ₹1,500 Crore Biomedical Research Career Programme Phase III to Train 2,000 Scientists by 2031

- The Union Cabinet has approved the third phase of India's Biomedical Research Career Programme (BRCP) with a total investment of ₹1,500 crore from 2025-26 to 2030-31, funded jointly by India's Department of Biotechnology (₹1,000 crore) and the UK's Wellcome Trust (₹500 crore). - The programme aims to train over 2,000 students and postdoctoral fellows while expanding biomedical research capacity into tier-2 and tier-3 cities to reduce regional disparities in scientific infrastructure. - Phase III will focus on developing translational biomedical innovation through early career fellowships, collaborative grants, and research management programmes, with goals to increase women's participation by 10-15% and enable 25-30% of collaborative programmes to reach Technology Readiness Level 4 or higher.
