India Calls for Mission-Mode Action as Liver Disease and Type-2 Diabetes Surge Among Younger Populations

- Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh has called for a nationwide mission-mode response to the interconnected rise of liver disease, Type-2 diabetes, and metabolic disorders now affecting younger adults and adolescents in India. - Speaking at the third anniversary of the InFLiMeN network, the Minister emphasized that fatty liver, hypertension, dyslipidaemia, and insulin resistance are closely linked and predispose one another. - India's unique metabolic profile—including genetic predisposition, central obesity, and the "Indian phenotype"—demands locally generated research data rather than reliance on international evidence alone. - The Minister highlighted the role of the National Liver Biobank, genomics, AI, and precision medicine in enabling early diagnosis and tailored treatments, while stressing that public awareness and behavioral change are equally critical.
