UC San Diego Launches $12.3 Million Brain-FRAMe Program to Improve Brain Health in People with HIV and Methamphetamine Use Disorder

- UC San Diego received a $12.3 million, five-year NIDA grant to launch the Brain-FRAMe program targeting people with HIV and active methamphetamine use disorder. - The study will evaluate long-acting injectable ART combined with medication for addiction treatment (naltrexone plus bupropion) to improve viral suppression and reduce methamphetamine use. - A multidisciplinary framework spanning implementation science, pharmacology, virology, immunology, and neuroscience will study the same participants over a 52-week period. - The program aims to address a vulnerable population historically excluded from research and create a scalable public health model for restoring brain health.
