- A French randomized trial (LOMBACT) found adults who added a soft lumbar belt to usual care reported greater improvements in daily functioning than those receiving usual care alone. - About 6 in 10 belt users achieved at least a 30% reduction in daily limitations, compared with roughly 4 in 10 in the control group. - Around half of belt users took pain medication during follow-up, versus about two-thirds of the comparison group. - A separate Cochrane review found very low-quality evidence overall, leaving uncertainty about whether back braces provide meaningful long-term relief.
