The inclusion criteria included age between 18-60 years and body mass index (BMI) between 28-35 kg/m2.
Exclusion criteria included weight changes of 5 kg or more within 6 weeks of enrollment, known allergies to food or substances utilized in the study, antibiotic, NSAID, or steroid use within 6 weeks before registration, bariatric surgery, active gastrointestinal disorders such as inflammatory bowel disease and short bowel syndrome, severe hypertension (defined as systolic blood pressure above 180 mmHg and/or diastolic blood pressure above 110 mmHg), severe hypertriglyceridemia (triglyceride levels above 500 mg/dL), diabetes mellitus, pregnancy, lactation, and history of phenylketonuria.
