Inclusion Criteria

Patients with symptomatic gallbladder disease who were candidates for elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

Exclusion Criteria

1. Patients with preoperative deranged cell counts or cytokine profile.

2. Receipients of corticosteroids or Pentoxifylline or immunoglobulins or immunosuppressive agents within past 4 weeks

3. Hyper sensitivity to pentoxifylline or other xanthines such as caffeine theophylline and theobromine.           

4. Patients taking pentoxifylline /corticosteroids for some disease.   

5. Severe hepatic impairment

6. Renal impairment        

7. Labile blood pressure  

8. Existing gastrointestinal ulceration

9. Uncontrolled diabetes mellitus

10. Systemic tuberculosis

11. Severe systemic bacterial, and fungal infections

12 Glaucoma

13. Osteoporosis

14. Immunocompromised state

15. Coagulation disorders

16. Pregnancy
