Patients with symptomatic gallbladder disease who were candidates for elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy.
1. Patients with preoperative deranged cell counts or cytokine profile.
2. Receipients of corticosteroids or Pentoxifylline or immunoglobulins or immunosuppressive agents within past 4 weeks
3. Hyper sensitivity to pentoxifylline or other xanthines such as caffeine theophylline and theobromine.          Â
4. Patients taking pentoxifylline /corticosteroids for some disease.  Â
5. Severe hepatic impairment
6. Renal impairment       Â
7. Labile blood pressure Â
8. Existing gastrointestinal ulceration
9. Uncontrolled diabetes mellitus
10. Systemic tuberculosis
11. Severe systemic bacterial, and fungal infections
12 Glaucoma
13. Osteoporosis
14. Immunocompromised state
15. Coagulation disorders
16. Pregnancy
