(1) Biopsy proven adenocarcinoma of the rectum located < 15 cm above the anal verge
(2) Patients with primary rectal cancer, who are eligible for laparoscopic low anterior resection with curative excision
(3) Clinical stage I-III
(1) Very low rectal cancer requiring intersphincteric resection or abdominoperineal resection
(2) Proven arteriosclerosis of the IMA and its branches
(3) Clinically suspected lymph node metastasis around the origin of the IMA from the aorta on preoperative imaging
(4) Familial adenomatous polyposis
(5) Inflammatory bowel disease
