Inclusion Criteria
- •(1\) Biopsy proven adenocarcinoma of the rectum located \< 15 cm above the anal verge
- •(2\) Patients with primary rectal cancer, who are eligible for laparoscopic low anterior resection with curative excision
- •(3\) Clinical stage I\-III
Exclusion Criteria
- •(1\) Very low rectal cancer requiring intersphincteric resection or abdominoperineal resection
- •(2\) Proven arteriosclerosis of the IMA and its branches
- •(3\) Clinically suspected lymph node metastasis around the origin of the IMA from the aorta on preoperative imaging
- •(4\) Familial adenomatous polyposis
- •(5\) Inflammatory bowel disease
