Inclusion Criteria

patients:
- the presence of advanced cancer in the context of palliative care
- Consent of the patient to participate in the study
- Sufficient knowledge of German
- Capacity of the patient to give informed consent

Relatives and staff:
- age greater than/equal to 18
- Sufficient knowledge of German
- Ability to give consent
- Consent to participate

Exclusion Criteria

patients:
- Expected massive deterioration in the patient's state of health/cognitive abilities
- Insufficient knowledge of German
- Lack of capacity to consent (legal guardianship)
- Dementia or delirium or states of consciousness similar to dementia or delirium
- Other cognitive symptoms that restrict the ability to give consent (e.g. increased fatigue)
- Distress-Score > 8

Relatives and staff:
- Insufficient knowledge of German
- No capacity to give consent

Primary Outcome Measures

understanding of end-of-life dignity assessed using a questionnaire specifically developed for the study based on the dignity model by Chochinov (2002) as well as the assessment of the relevance of different areas of dignity (using a likertscale) at one measuring point.
