Persons, with (n=50) or without a fall (n=50) within the past 12 months; persons =65 years.
Orthopedic limitations (e.g., recently operated arthroplasty, arthritis) whose stage of disease precludes performance testing in the moderate exercise range on the ergometer or acutely impairs gait; Neurological (stroke) whose stage of disease precludes performance testing in the moderate exercise range on the ergometer or acutely impairs gait; Cardiovascular (e.g., untreated hypertension >80/110 mmHg, decompensated heart failure, coronary heart failure, ß-blocker use required) diseases whose stage of disease precludes performance testing in the moderate exercise range on the ergometer or acutely impairs gait. Cardiovascular diseases (e.g. untreated hypertension >180/110 mmHg, decompensated heart failure, coronary heart disease) whose stage of disease precludes a performance test in the moderate exercise range on the ergometer or acutely impairs gait; Metabolic diseases (e.g., diabetes mellitus, hypertension) whose stage of disease precludes a performance test in the moderate exercise range on the ergometer or acutely impairs gait. Metabolic diseases (e.g., diabetes mellitus) whose stage of disease precludes performance testing in the moderate exercise range on the ergometer or acutely impairs gait; Restrictions (e.g., eczema, COPD). eczema, COPD) whose stage of disease precludes performance testing in the moderate exercise range on the ergometer or acutely impairs gait; subject is unable to walk for 30 min without a walking aid; body weight >135 kg; severe visual impairment that precludes performance testing in the moderate exercise range on the treadmill or acutely impairs gait; inability to give informed consent for study participation.
