1. All newly diagnosed patients (age- 1 to 16 years) of epilepsy coming to pediatrics OPD and pediatric ward who will be initiated on sodium valproate or levetiracetam monotherapy
2. Patientâ??s parents who have given written informed consent. Assent from children more than 9 years of age if feasible (conscious and oriented child with normal intelligence).
EXCLUSION CRITERIA
1. Children with episode of febrile convulsion
2.Epileptic children who are seizure free and had stopped taking medication for 3 or more years
3.Children on vitamin D supplementation
4.Children with metabolic bone disease.
5.Children with significant renal, hepatic, endocrine disorders which will effect vitamin D and calcium metabolism.
6. Patients with epilepsy who are on antiepileptic polytherapy.
7.Patients who are in need of critical care and are bed ridden
