Hospitalized patients with intravenous therapy scheduled for 6 days or longer with a medical order for PICC insertion
Patients classified as urgency, because it prevented randomization;
Patients who required a specific catheter for continuity of treatment;
Patients who required a new PICC after being recruited for the study;
Patients with a previous diagnosis of DVT;
Patients previosuly mastectomized on the side chosen for insertion of the catheter;
Patients with damaged/sclerosed peripheral venous network;
Patients with bacteremia;
Patients with dermatitis/cellulitis or trauma to the arm to be punctured.

- Primary Outcome Measures
Name Time Method A statistically significant decrease in the incidence of deep vein thrombosis diagnosed through doppler ultrasound in the presence of one of the signs and symptoms: pain, hyperaemia and edema.
