Inclusion Criteria
Patients age 18-80 year
Severe secondary hyperparathyroidism i.e. persistently elevated PTH values > 800 pg/ml for > 6 months, serum calcium >10.2 mg/dl, phosphorus > 5.5 mg/dl, presence of calciphylaxis, or erythropoietin-resistant anemia who fail to respond to medical therapy.
Exclusion Criteria
Previous thyroid or parathyroid surgery
Previous neck irradiation
Unable to identify at least 4 parathyroids.
