1. Subjects who are within the age of 35-60 years.
2. Subjects with periodontitis with >5mm pocket depth in greater than 30% of tooth surface.
3. Physician diagnosed type 2 diabetes of more than 3 months duration.
4. Currently under the care of a physician for diabetes management.
5. No change in diabetes related medications during 3 months duration prior to enrolment.

1. Patients with any other systemic diseases or condition (other than type2 Diabetes Mellitus) which would influence the course of periodontal disease or treatment.
2. Patients with medical conditions that would require antibiotic prophylaxis for routine dental procedure.
3. Patients who have taken antibiotics in previous 3 months.
4. Pregnant or lactating women.
5. Patients using any form of tobacco products.
