Inclusion Criteria

  • Individuals at minimum age of 18, giving informed written consent, having a one-sided lateral epicondylitis (LE) with local pain in the elbow region for more than 4 weeks and positive pain provocation by resisted wrist extension at evaluation visit (Cozen´s test) with a NRS of 4 or more

Exclusion Criteria

  • Prior acupuncture treatment with press tack needles
  • History of major elbow injury or surgery
  • Complex regional pain syndrome of the hand or forearm
  • Other disorders possibly influencing existing elbow symptoms
  • Cervical neuropathy, paralysis or neurological changes of the affected upper limb
  • Fractures or open wounds at the acupuncture application sites
  • Mental disorders possibly affecting the examination
  • Inflammatory or infectious arthritis
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Noncompliance with the research protocol
  • Taking pain medication within 24 hours before treatment
  • Having corticosteroid injections at the elbow within 4 weeks preceding the study.
