Adult non-diabetic patients of either sex aged between 18 and 65 years with proven or clinically suspicious peritonitis undergoing emergency laparotomy. Clinically proven peritonitis defined as ascitic fluid culture positive for organisms OR asciá¹ic fluid PMN counts more than 250cells per mm3 or intraabdominal surgically identifiable primary source of infection. Clinically suspected peritonitis is defined as Abdominal muscle guarding or rigidity and signs of sepsis including fever or hypothermia, hypotension, tachycardia or SOFA score positive.
1.Patients or relativeâ??s refusal to consent for study
2.History of previous exploratory laparotomy in the current hospitalization period
3.History of ICU stay in last 6months
4.Pre-existing significant cardiac, renal and hepatic diseases
5.Intraoperative massive blood loss or massive transfusion
