Inclusion Criteria

All critically ill patients of at least 18 years of age who were mechanically ventilated with an endotracheal tube for more than 48 hours.

Exclusion Criteria

Previous history of immunosuppression, prosthetic cardiac valve or valvular graft, rheumatic fever, recent gastroesophageal or intestinal injury/surgery, tracheostomy, patient refusal. Patient having pregnancy/pneumonia currently, severe multiple organ failure with Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation (APACHE) II score of more than or equal to 25 & Mechanical ventilation for more than 72 hours prior to enrolment.
