Inclusion Criteria

The inclusion criteria were patients undergoing comprehensive orthodontic treatment 1 to 6 months before study commencement, with 11 to 17 years of age, from both sexes, with complete permanent dentition.

Exclusion Criteria

The exclusion criteria were patients with cavitated dental caries, developmental enamel alterations (enamel hypoplasia and fluorosis), and use of antibiotics during the follow-up period.
