Inclusion Criteria
babies who are less than 36 weeks and growth retarded with abnormal antenatal umbilical flow will be one group. equal number of growth retarded gestation matched babies with normal antenatal doppler will form controls
Exclusion Criteria
any baby with severe birth asphyxia, major malformation, shock at time of enrolment, hemodynamically significant heart disease, gut malformation, lack of antenatal doppler
