Inclusion Criteria

1.Waist circumference (males: >=90 cm and for females: >=80 cm),

2.Triglycerides >=150 mg/dl (1.7 mmol/l),

3.Low HDL (Males <40 mg/dl (1 mmol/l) and or females <50 mg/dl (1.3 mmol/l),

4.Systolic blood pressure >=130 mmHg and/or Diastolic blood pressure >=85 mmHg.

5.Elevated blood sugar (fasting blood sugar >=100 mg/ dl ( 5.6 mmol/l).

To be enrolled in the study, patients had to have >=3 of the above-mentioned criteria to be classified as having metabolic syndrome.

Exclusion Criteria

1.if they were diagnosed with the following diseases such as thyroid disease or diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular diseases, chronic liver or kidney disease, advanced cancer or any other chronic disease.

2.Subjects were excluded if they were already on a specific diet and exercise recommendations and not willing to participate.
