Refeeding risks in patients requiring nutrition supportPatients who have a non-functioning gastrointestinal tract require artifical intravenous nutrition. This is usally a result recent surgery or sepsis causing a reversible short term paralysis of the bowel. These patients are often very unwell with infection, electrolyte disturbances, fluid balance abnormalities or other surgical complications. What is not known is what level of feeding provision is needed in the short term.EUCTR2007-005547-17-GBSouthampton University Hospital NHS Trust230
