Willingness to participate in the study
No history of open heart surgery
Elective coronary artery bypass surgery
Extubation in the intensive care unit duringthe first 8 hours after surgery
Having physical status class I-III based on American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) physical status classification system
Having Mallampati class I-II (difficulty of endotracheal intubation)
getting a score of =95 based on the Mann Assessment of Swallowing Ability (MASA)
Obtaining a score of 14-15 based on the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS)
Statement of thirst by a patient undergoing coronary artery bypass surgery
being NPO
Having no history of mental problems or dementia based on the patient's medical record
Having no underlying disease such as diabetes or kidney disorders based on the patient's medical record
Having no open wounds or diseases leading to scaling of the mouth and lips based on observation
Having no nasal breathing problem
Having a heart attack or stroke after the operation or during the study
Decreased level of consciousness or delirium during the study
Re-referral to the operating room during the study
Hyperthermia (axillary temperature above 38 degrees)
Unwillingness to continue participation in the study
