Eligibility Criteria

Inclusion Criteria

  • 1\. ASA physical status less than or equal to III
  • 2\. 18\-75 years of age
  • 3\. Endoscopically/histologically confirmed carcinoma of stomach planned for elective gastrectomy
  • 4\. Adequate liver and renal function

Exclusion Criteria

  • 1\. Patient refusal
  • 2\. Patients with uncontrolled diabetes
  • 3\. Patients in whom thoracic epidural analgesia is not feasible
  • 4\. Patients who are not motivated or not willing to perform incentive spirometry.
