Inclusion Criteria
1. ASA physical status less than or equal to III
2. 18-75 years of age
3. Endoscopically/histologically confirmed carcinoma of stomach planned for elective gastrectomy
4. Adequate liver and renal function
Exclusion Criteria
1. Patient refusal
2. Patients with uncontrolled diabetes
3. Patients in whom thoracic epidural analgesia is not feasible
4. Patients who are not motivated or not willing to perform incentive spirometry.
