Association of gum diseases to COVID 19

Brief Summary: The study is being conducted after approval from the Institutional ethics committee.

It is an Observational case control study being done to know the association between periodontitis(gum disease) and severity of COVID19.

For this study, retrospective data will be screened obtained from the Kasturba medical college medical records and dental records.

Records will be screened for obtaining the following data:

1.Patients demographic data

2.Date of occurence of Covid19

3.Severity of Covid19

4.Presence of any other systemic comorbities

Dental records will be screened to obtain:

1. Date of dental visit

2. presence of plaque and calculus

3. smoking status

4. presence of Bleeding on probing

5. mean probing depth

6. clinical attachment level

7. gingival recession

8. tooth mobility

9. radiographic bone loss

10. periodontal disease status

Based on the obtained data the subjects will be grouped under the following categories:

1. Presence of periodontitis and severity of Covid19

2. Absence of periodontitis and severity of Covid19

appropriate statistical analysis will be done on the obtained data to know the association between periodontitis and severity of Covid19

Recruitment & Eligibility

Inclusion Criteria

Both male and female subjects of age >18 years who had a history of COVID 19 and have confirmatory RT-PCR report will be included.
All participants whose dental records can be retrieved from medical records obtained from Kasturba medical Hospital.
Subjects who have dental records (have visited dental OPD) before the date of onset of COVID-19 infection.

Exclusion Criteria

subjects less than 18years of age subjects with no confirmatory RTPCR report subjects whose dental and medical records cannot be retrieved.
