Inclusion Criteria

General inclusion criteria:
- Female sex
- Age between 11 to 19 years
- Sufficient understanding of the German language
- Informed consent from study participants and their legal guardians

Inclusion Criteria Patient Group Anorexia Nervosa:
- Diagnosis of anorexia nervosa according to ICD-10 F50.0
- Connection to outpatient, day-care or inpatient diagnosis/counseling/treatment at KJP Regensburg
- BMI index below the 10th age percentile

Inclusion criteria Control group:
- No previous psychiatric or neurological illnesses
- No presence of a mental disorder requiring treatment
- No current or past outpatient, partial hospitalization, or full hospitalization psychiatric or psychotherapeutic interventions
- BMI between 19 - 23.9

Exclusion Criteria

General Exclusion Criteria:
- Pre-existing neurological or endocrinological disease
- Pregnancy
- Interlectual impairment (IQ < 80)
- Comorbid profound developmental disorder (autism)
- substance dependence
- Taking a psychotropic medication
- lack of consent
- acute suicidal tendency
- MRI-specific contraindications that preclude patient inclusion due to the strong magnetic field, including: Metallic foreign objects, tattoos with metal-containing pigments, claustrophobia, pacemakers and defibrillator systems, cochlear implant, implanted insulin pumps, non-removable piercings made of magnetic materials

Exclusion criteria control group:
- psychiatric pre-existing conditions
- Presence of a mental disorder requiring treatment
- Current or past outpatient, partial hospitalization, or full hospitalization psychiatric or psychotherapeutic interventions
- BMI below 19.0

Primary Outcome Measures

The aim is to draw conclusions about possible cachexia-related structural and chemical changes in the context of anorexia nervosa as well as potential regeneration during the course of therapy or even chronic brain physiological consequences due to the massive weight loss and malnutrition. <br><br>fMRI:<br>Diffusion-weighted imaging (DTI) is used to assess structural connectivity differences between relevant areas. MR spectroscopic examination measures metabolic markers (GABA, glutamate, glutathione).
