A Study to Assess the Knowledge on Infection Control Practices among Undergraduate Physiotherapy Students Before and After Implementation of a Structured Lecture Program

The study was approved by Institutional Ethical Committee [ IEC] - Ethical Clearance Number :  SRMIEC-ST1225-5052 of SRM Medical college hospital and research centre. after obtaining informed consent, participants were assigned unique identification codes to ensure confidentiality. A validated, structured, self-administered questionnaire was distributed in paper form. Uniform instructions were given to all participants to answer independently without consulting books or peers, within a duration of 15–20 minutes.

The pre-test was conducted to assess baseline knowledge on infection control practices. This was followed by an intervention, consisting of a structured lecture program on infection control practices delivered for 45–60 minutes using PowerPoint presentations, videos, and standard WHO and CDC guidelines.

The post-test was administered seven days after the lecture using the same questionnaire to evaluate changes in knowledge.

The questionnaire included Section A (demographic details such as age, gender, academic year, and clinical exposure) and Section B (20–25 multiple-choice questions covering hand hygiene, use of personal protective equipment, sterilization and disinfection, waste disposal, and standard precautions). Each correct answer was awarded one mark. Knowledge levels were categorized as good (75–100%), moderate (50–74%), and poor (<50%).
