The inclusion criteria for the case group are as follows: 1) adults aged 40 to under 70 who have been diagnosed with acute coronary syndrome and have undergone percutaneous coronary intervention or coronary artery bypass surgery within one month, and 2) individuals who are capable of recalling and describing their condition prior to the event.
The inclusion criteria for the control group are: 1) adults aged 40 to under 70 who meet three or more of the following criteria for metabolic syndrome: (a) abdominal obesity (waist circumference greater than or equal to 90cm for men, greater than or equal to 85cm for women), (b) blood pressure greater than or equal to 130/85mmHg or taking antihypertensive medication, (c) fasting blood glucose greater than or equal to 100mg/dL or taking hypoglycemic agents, (d) low high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) levels (less than 40mg/dL for men, less than 50mg/dL for women) or taking medication for hyperlipidemia, (e) elevated triglycerides (greater than or equal to 150mg/dL) or undergoing drug therapy for hypertriglyceridemia (Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, 2019), and 2) individuals without acute coronary syndrome. However, if waist circumference measurements are unavailable, a body mass index (BMI) of 25.00kg/m2 or higher, as suggested by the Korean Society for the Study of Obesity (2022), will be utilized as a criterion for obesity.
The common exclusion criteria for both the case and control groups are as follows: 1) currently participating in another clinical study, even if they meet the selection criteria mentioned above, 2) deemed clinically unstable by the attending physician, and 3) individuals unable to complete surveys or engage in communication with researchers.
