Inclusion Criteria

All open abdomen patients, all indications and underlying diseases, all types of open abdomen techniques, if patients had survived for a minimum period of 24 hours after the initiation of open abdomen management, if the participating hospital was registered with EuraHS and was a member of the Open Abdomen Study Group, if informed consent had been obtained from the patient or a legal representative.

Exclusion Criteria

Consent was not obtained.
The patient died within 24 hours after the initiation of open abdomen management.
The data set for the variables included in the analysis was incomplete.
All patients who died before the completion of open abdomen treatment were excluded from the analysis of fascial closure (endpoint) (per-protocol analysis).
