Eligibility Criteria

Inclusion Criteria

  • Subjects aged \>\=40 years
  • Low back pain (defined as pain between the lower rib cage and gluteal folds)
  • Pain \>\=3 on a 10\-cm visual analog scale

Exclusion Criteria

  • History of any neurological, psychological and psychiatric disorders
  • Recognizable, known specific spinal pathology, for a period of at least twelve weeks Alcoholism and other drug abuse
  • An increase of pain of 3 points with a result of \>8/10 on the Numeric Pain Rating Scale (NPRS) in the last 48 hours
  • Rehabilitation/exercise therapy program in the past 6 months
  • Uncontrolled arrhythmias
  • History of myocardial infarction
  • Active angina
  • Uncontrolled hypertension/diabetes
  • Any systemic/respiratory illness that prevents subjects from participation in the study
