- Brief Summary
In orthodontics, retraction of teeth isthe prerequisite after the therapeutic extraction of the first permanentpremolar to close the space or to relive the crowding. There are variousmethods of space closure which is categorized under friction and frictionlessmechanics. The retraction of the tooth can be either segmental or enmasse. Toprevent anchorage loss, TADs are most commonly used. The present study willinclude subjects who are undergoing fixed mechanotherapy and require maxillaryfirst premolars extraction. In this study, single canine distalization is optedfor the space closure. Canine will be distalized with the help of activetiebacks type one using Alastic (3M Unitek) and O-Rings (Ormco) elastomericmodules on right and left side respectively. The subjects will be divided intotwo groups. Right side of the maxillary arch will be grouped under Group Ausing Alastic (3M Unitek) elastomeric modules. Left side of the maxillary archwill be grouped under Group B using O-Rings (Ormco) elastomeric modules. Theimpression will be made periodically at 0, 6 and 12 weeks. Models will beprepared periodically. Space will be measured on models at three time intervalswith the help of standardized Digital Vernier Caliper. The distance will be measured from the tip ofthe canine and the mesiobuccal groove of the 2nd permanent molar ofeach maxillary right and left quadrant. There islimited data found in the literature till date for evaluating and comparingthe space closure, using Alastic (3MUnitek) and O-Rings (Ormco) elastomeric modules in active tiebacks duringdistalization of canines. The present study will help theclinician to choose the best elastomeric modules for their patients.
