The relationship between visual perception and academic performance among optometry students

This is a prospective study which will be conducted between April 2023 to April 2024. Every student of Optometry will be evaluated with a detailed case history, followed by clinical evaluation involving assessment of vision, refraction, sensory and motor evaluation. Accommodation and vergence functions will be tested after which the diagnosis of non strabismic binocular vision anomalies will be done. Each student will be assessed for visual perception using developmental test for visual perception giving us a value of their visual perceptual age. Those students who are found to be with a poorer visual perceptual skills will be given with perceptual therapy and re-evaluated for the same. The academic performance of each student will be considered based on reading comprehension along with the theoretical and clinical skill evaluation results and will be correlated with visual perception doing DTVP and Academic performance. Based on whichever component of visual perception is poor will be planning to give perceptual therapy and re-assess the students for any changes.
