1. Ninety systemically healthy subjects aged 20 to 50 years male/female will be screened for the presence of mild to moderate chronic generalized periodontitis (clinical attachment loss of = 5mm in more than 30% of present sites).
2. Chronic generalized periodontitis (CGP) according to AAP 1999 classification is defined as clinical attachment loss < 5 mm, periodontal pockets of more than 5-7 mm in minimum 3 teeth of each quadrant ?.
3. The clinical attachment loss of less than 5 mm without any probing depth will also be considered under mild to moderate periodontitis and will be included. The patient should have 24
4. functional teeth.
1. Subjects with clinical attachment loss of more than 5mm (severe periodontitis) will be excluded in order to exclude patients with severe periodontitis.
2. Patient with systemic allergic to chlorhexidine
3. Subjects with any systemic diseases, any concurrent medications
4. Patient on high polyphenol and antioxidant diet
5. Pregnant or lactating mothers, or having habits detrimental to oral health, e.g. smoking, consuming alcohol, betel nut chewing or using any other form of tobacco, will be excluded from the study.
6. Patients who had undergone any periodontal treatment in the previous six months or those using any orthodontic appliances or dental prostheses
7. Subjects using any other oral hygiene agents for removing plaque and controlling gingival inflammation along with regular tooth brushing will be excluded to remove confounding bias arising due to the difference in plaque control measures.
