Eligibility Criteria
Inclusion Criteria
- •Adult patients (aged between 18 years and 75 years) of American Society of Anesthesiologists physical status I or II, of either sex undergoing elective or emergency abdominal surgery with duration more than 2 hours under general anesthesia will be recruited in this study
Exclusion Criteria
- •1\.Patients refusal to participate in the study
- •2\.Patients undergoing emergency laparotomy for trauma and related causes.
- •3\.Known COPD or other chronic lung diseases
- •4\.Preoperative diagnosis of Pneumonia
- •5\.Known deformity of chest wall or thoracic spine
- •6\.Pre\-existing significant cardiac, renal and hepatic diseases
- •7\.Intraoperative massive blood loss (defined by blood loss \>40 ml/kg) or massive transfusion (more than 8 unit of PRBC transfusion during surgery)
- •8\.Patients with history of previous thoracic surgery.
- •9\.BMI \> 30 kg/m2, \< 18 kg/m2
- •10\.Patients who are on high dose of vasopressors (defined as noradrenalin 10mcg/m or equivalent)
