Patient admitted in a medical icu and who have infection affecting the whole body are taken into study. Their sequential organ failure assessment score and C-reactive protein is compared to predict outcome.

Inclusion Criteria
1 Patients above 18 years of age
2 Patients with evidence of sepsis admitted into a medical intensive care unit.
Exclusion Criteria
1 Age < 18 years.
2 Decompensated chronic liver disease
3 On treatment with immunosuppressive agents.
4 Patients of retro viral illness.
5 Patients with neuromuscular diseases, autoimmune disease.
6 Presence of left ventricular dysfunction or cardiac bypass surgery
7 Chest or abdominal trauma
8 Burn injury.
