elective LAR for Patient suffering from rectal Cancer and planned anasomosis location in middle and distal third of the rectum - local curative therapy - normal preoperativ continence - sphincter preserving surgery available - non-IBD-associated carcinomas - informed consent
non curative therapy - emergency surgery in case of tumor perforation, sepsis, abscess - proximal rectal carcinomas (located >12 cm from dentate line) - no informed consent - age < 18 years - reduced or lack of legal capacity to contract - inclusion in other studies with interfering endpoint - live expectancy < 24 months - pregnancy - immunosuppression
