入选标准

  • 64 adults of both sexes with the American Society of Anaesthesiologists (ASA) physical status I or II, aged 18 to 60 years, undergoing elective anterior cervical spine surgery for cervical spondylosis or prolapsed intervertebral disc were enrolled

排除标准

  • Exclusion criteria included active smokers (history of smoking any time in past 6 months); preexisting bradycardia (HR below 50/min) or hypotension (systolic arterial pressure less than 100 mm Hg); planned elective ventilation post-operatively; poor respiratory reserve and poor cough reflex; presence of cardiac, renal, hepatic, and respiratory dysfunction; cognitive impairment; pregnancy or breast feeding; known allergy to alpha 2-agonists; and use of beta-blockers, cimetidine, digoxin, alpha 2-agonists or psychotropic medications.
