Patients with Temporomandibular myofascial pain syndrome as diagnosed with myofascial pain
DC/TMD diagnostic criteria and not responding to one-month routine medical management.
Patients between 20 to 50 years of age, unilateral pain, pain on palpation of muscles of mastication,
joint sound (clicking), restricted mouth opening, no joint tenderness palpating through external
auditory meatus, and no clinical, radiographic, or biochemical evidence of organic joint disease
(Laskin’s criteria) were included
1.Traumatic conditions, ankylosis, neoplastic changes, developmental defects, degenerative joint
diseases affecting the TMJ.
2.Patients with clicking of TMJ, but without pain or restricted mandibular movements
3. Patients with undiagnosed dental pain or who have skin lesions or facial abrasion at the site of
acoustic gel placement.
4. Patients with cardiac pacemakers and cardiac arrhythmias and other uncontrolled systemic
diseases.
5. Vascular disorders and neurological pain
6. Patients with any history of seizures
7. Pregnant and lactating mothers
8. Mentally disabled patient
