Inclusion Criteria
healthy primi gravida women with a
singleton fetus in cephalic presentation at term (>= 37 weeksâ?? gestation), who will request
epidural analgesia; an American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) physical status class 2; no
contraindications for epidural analgesia.
Exclusion Criteria
BMI more than 35 kg/m2 ; gestational diabetes; hypertensive disorders; induced labor; premature
rupture of membranes ( >18 h duration); fetal growth retardation or a fetus with physical
abnormalities. Patients will be excluded from the study if any complications develop that
requires cessation of the epidural infusion. This includes patients who have ineffective
analgesia, in whom there will be a need to change LA concentration or study design.
