In the subjective evaluation of the current care situation at least one of the following three criteria (a to c) must be met:
a)A pressing wish to change the current care situation.
b)Care provision for the care recipient is often difficult.
c)The caregiver has often difficulties to cope with the current situation.
Caregiver:
- Sufficient German language skills
- Spending at least 10.5 hours per week (on at least two days of the week) for care, supervision and housekeeping
- No immediate need for counselling within the following days (e.g. after a hospital stay, in emergency cases)
Care recipient:
- 18 years or older
- Care level 1-5 (according to the German long-term care insurance)
Inclusion criteria for the optional participation of the care recipient in the study and evaluation:
- ability to give an informed consent
- sufficient cognition and physical capacity to participate in the consultation and evaluation
- sufficient German language skills
Caregiver:
- is currently in psychiatric/ psychotherapeutic treatment OR reports significant impairment of everyday life due to acute mental disorder
- participates in another intervention study
Care recipient:
- requires palliative care or has a terminal illness with a life expectancy of less than 6 months
- is currently in hospital, rehabilitation or is living in a nursing home
- planned move into a nursing home within the next 3 months
- the consultation objective is limited to specific information (e.g. on beneficiaries, applications, objections)
