Inclusion Criteria
- •Pacientes adultos de 50 años o más con diagnóstico de meningitis bacteriana
- •por las características clínicas y del LCR que: 1) se clasifican de entrada como
- •de etiología neumocócica por el resultado de la tinción de Gram del LCR y/o la
- •detección del antígeno neumocócico en LCR; o (2) se clasifican como
- •sospecha de etiología neumocócica por tratarse de un episodio asociado a
- •otitis, sinusitis, neumonía, fístula de LCR o factores de riesgo conocidos
- •(mieloma, esplenectomía etc.).

Exclusion Criteria
- •Haber presentado convulsiones antes de la llegada a urgencias o de la
- •inclusión en el estudio.
- •· Embarazo o lactancia
- •· Presentar alteraciones de la conducción en el ECG
- •· Antecedente de alergia o intolerancia a la fenitoína.
- •· Pacientes con meningitis como complicación de maniobras
- •neuroquirúrgicas.
- •· Pacientes epilépticos con toma habitual de anticomiciales.
- •· Negativa del paciente o familia a participar y/o firmar el consentimiento
