Inclusion Criteria

Inclusion Criteria:

• > 18 years of age

•Planned major abdominal surgery for gynaecological cancer with open midline surgical incision

•Willing and able to consent and communicate properly

•American Society of Anaesthesiologists (ASA) I â?? III

Exclusion Criteria

Exclusion Criteria:

•Consent refused

•ASA >III

•Contraindications to regional technique e.g allergy to local anaesthesia, infection around site of block , coagulation disorder and sepsis

•History of analgesic dependence (long term use) and opiate tolerance

•Difficulty with communication

•Pre-existing chronic abdominal pain

•Use of any analgesic (opioid, acetaminophen, NSAIDS) within 24 hours of surgery

•Diabetes or Renal insufficiency

•Concurrent additional surgery at another anatomical site

•Extensive existing midline abdominal scarring
