Eligibility Criteria
Inclusion Criteria
- •Smokers who smoke 8 cigarettes per day for at least 3 years.
- •Non smokers are those who has never smoked.
- •Patients with chronic periodontitis, defined as attachment loss of atleast 4 mm at one or more sites
- •One or more interproximal sites with pocket depth (PD) \> 5mm.
- •Minimum of 20 teeth present.
Exclusion Criteria
- •Ex smokers.
- •Pregnancy, lactation, pathologies such as diabetes mellitus, hypertension, asthma, epilepsy, and coronary artery disease, skin or chronic diseases which can also increase the CRP levels.
- •Any oral inflammatory lesions such as ulcers, desquamative lesions.
- •History of periodontal therapy or antimicrobial therapy within 6 months.
- •History of orthodontic therapy.
- •Any medications known to affect periodontium like aspirin, NSAIDS.
- •Subjects with history of coagulation disorders, chronic renal disease, peripheral vascular disease.
- •Any infectious or debilitating disease.
- •Habits such as tobacco chewing, alcohol intake.
- •Patients on radiotherapy.
