Patients
- discharged because of death
- who died before April 1st 2016 on an acute care ward
Level 2 – expert interviews:
Employees who
- are a head nurse or
- senior physicians
or
- service staff who come in contact with dying patients during their work and have written consent.
Level 3 – Questionnaire
Physicians, nurses and service staff who
- work on acute care wards
- are directly and/or indirectly involved in the care of the dying patients and their relatives.
Level 1 – chart review:
Patients who
- died on other wards
- were discharged because of other reasons
Level 2 – expert interviews:
Employees
- who cannot be exempted from patient care for the duration of the interview
- who refuse the participation
Level 3 – questionnaire:
Physicians, nurses and service staff who
- who cannot be exempted from patient care for the duration of the survey
- who decline participation
